Running backs are scarce at practice with DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones missing

The Cowboys were without their top two running backs, DeMarco Murray and Felix Jones, as practice began Wednesday.

Murray is expected to miss another week with a foot injury. He was injured against the Ravens and did not play against the Panthers. He watched practice from the window of the training room.

Jones injured his knee against the Panthers last week.

Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar are the Cowboys' other running backs. Dunbar played his first career game against the Ravens after Murray went out. Tanner has 44 career carries in his two seasons for 137 yards and a touchdown.

Center Phil Costa (ankle), Sean Lissemore (ankle) and Matt Johnson (hamstring) also were not on the practice field. Linebacker DeMarcus Ware (illness) was on the field but wearing a baseball cap and was not fully dressed. He later said he would be back tomorrow. Linebacker Anthony Spencer (pectoral) and cornerback Mike Jenkins (shoulder) were not fully dressed and appeared to be limited participants in practice.
