Cowboys owner Jerry Jones visited with Browns president Mike Holmgren before the game, a routine pre-game chat that became highly scrutinized after last week’s leak that Holmgren would be interested in coaching the Cowboys if the job was available.
Jones was asked what they were talking about.
He didn’t say anything about a job. But he left no mystery about how he feels about the former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks coach.
“Well, we had the visit that we always have, when he comes or I come,” Jones said. “We’re good friends. Served for about seven or eight years on the competition committee together. We have a tight friendship. We visited about all the things we normally visit about. He really, apart from being an outstanding coach, he’s a heck of a man. He’s got a lot of character. And I can’t tell you how much I respect him. And you know, when you’re in close like that, spend a lot of time with somebody, familiarity can breed contempt, as the old saying says. It’s just the opposite with him. Every time I’ve ever been around him, he’s gone up in my eyes.”
