Scandrick hopes to play despite fractured hand; Jenkins an option at slot

Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick said the sustained a spiral fracture in his left hand, as well as pain in his wrist, during Thursday’s 38-31 loss to the Washington Redskins. Scandrick, who primarily covers the slot receiver in Dallas’ nickel package, had surgery Friday and could be lost for the season.

“If there’s any way I can play, I’ll be back,” Scandrick said, adding that he “instantly felt” pain in the arm when it happened but was not sure was caused the break. “My hand has a spiral fracture. But I’m having some pain in my wrist and I don’t know what that is.”

If Scandrick is sidelined for an extended stretch, Mike Jenkins could wind up handling slot coverage duties in the Cowboys’ nickel package.

“If it is the case, I’m ready,” said Jenkins, who acknowledged other coverage options exist before the team returns to the field Dec. 2 against Philadelphia. “I’ve got a full week to get ready.”
