The Cowboys are outscoring opponents 218-164 in the second half this season, including 137-99 in the fourth quarter. They Cowboys have had five comebacks this season, rallying to win against the Panthers, Browns, Eagles, Bengals and Steelers after trailing in the fourth quarter. They also were tied with the Eagles at 17 going into the fourth quarter in Philadelphia before winning 38-23.
"Football comes down to making plays in the fourth quarter," Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo said Thursday. "We have been able to do that. I feel very comfortable when we get in those positions to get us in the right play and do the things that are needed to help win football games. Our team has done that here as of late."
Last season was just the opposite: The Cowboys couldn't hold a lead. They blew five fourth-quarter leads last year in an 8-8 season.
This season, they're figuring out a way to get it done -- somehow, someway. Romo expects another close game against the Saints this week."I understand that we’re down a lot of guys from what we started with and the games are going to be close," Romo said. "It’s just the reality fo what our team is going to be dealing with in every game. We’re not going to come out there and win 50-7. We understand that. But we also know that if we do things right, we can get ourselves into a close ball game, and we’re a mentally-tough team that feels like we can make the plays to find a way win the ball game and we’ve been doing that."
