Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said running back DeMarco Murray needs to do a better job with ball security after losing fumbles in consecutive games. Before that, the second-year pro carried 288 times without fumbling to begin his NFL career.
“We obviously have to get that corrected. Every week, you have to be good with the football,” Garrett said, citing Murray’s lost fumble at the Cowboys’ 5-yard line against New Orleans as a miscue that cannot be repeated against Washington. “Ball security is critical.”
After Sunday’s game, Murray took responsibility for his recent struggles with fumbles and vowed to get it corrected this week.
“We can’t shoot ourselves in the foot,” Murray said. “Turnovers are a big deal. We have to protect the ball.”
