The Cowboys team orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Dan Cooper, was named the 2013 recipient of the Jerry "Hawk" Rhea Award. It is presented annually to the outstanding NFL team physician. The award, which is selected by the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society, is named for Jerry Rhea who was the head athletic trainer for the Atlanta Falcons from 1969 until 1994.
Dr. Cooper, the head physician for the Cowboys for the past 13 years, has been affiliated with the team since 1992. He is the senior partner of arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at the Carrell Clinic in Dallas.
