Cowboys sign S McCray to return this season

Safety Danny McCray signed his $1.323 million tender, giving the Cowboys another player at a position of need. McCray, a restricted free agent, started 10 games last season after Barry Church went on injured reserve.

McCray had a career-high 87 tackles, second on the team, with five pass breakups and a tackle for loss. He likely is more suited for special teams, though. He was the Cowboys' second-leading special teams tackler with 18 stops.

The Cowboys are expected to add a safety early in next weekend's draft after releasing Gerald Sensabaugh. Church is returning from a torn Achilles' tendon, and Matt Johnson missed all of his rookie season with hamstring and back injuries. The Cowboys did sign Will Allen, but he has started only 33 games in six seasons.
