Look for the impasse between the Cowboys and tackle Doug Free to end before the start of organized team activities next week.
The Cowboys have no intention of paying Free a $7 million salary for next season and have asked to take a pay cut of roughly $4 million.
Free has yet to agree to do so.
From a business standpoint, the Cowboys need a decision before he is allowed to participate in organized team activities to cover them in case of an injury. If Free suffered an injury during the workouts the team would be on the hook for his entire $7 million salary.
Cowboys vice-president Stephen Jones said everyone involved is well aware of what’s at stake.
“I think we’re on the same page with (Free’s agent Jimmy Sexton) and Doug as far as the timing,” Jones said. “We want Doug here. Hopefully we can get it all worked out.”
