DE Ben Bass' sprained ankle shouldn't keep him out long, but Cowboys down to fourth LE

Defensive end Ben Bass sprained his left ankle in Friday's practice. He is expected to miss a couple of days.

Bass had been lining up with the first team at left end, with the absences of starter Anthony Spencer and backup Tyrone Crawford. Spencer had minor knee surgery Thursday and is expected to be sidleined three weeks. Crawford is out for the year with a torn Achilles.

"It hurts," Bass said. "I enjoyed being out there. I enjoyed getting the work in. You can't control what happens. You've just got to sit here and get reps mentally."

The Cowboys now are down to their fourth end on the left side, with Cameron Scheffield working with the ones in Saturday's walk-through. Monte Taylor was working with the twos.

The Cowboys' defensive line also is missing tackle Jay Ratliff, who has a hamstring injury.

"It's football, man," defensive tackle Jason Hatcher said. "...We’re going to rally up and get everybody back healthy. At the end of the day, I don’t care who gets hurt just so they’re ready when we get ready to play New York. I want to stay healthy. I want to practice, because I love being out here with my teammates."
