Running back Lance Dunbar caught the Cowboys' attention and earned a role in the offense because of his quickness on the field. Now he is banking on a speedy recovery from a sprained foot to be ready for the Sept. 8 season opener against the Giants.
Running back DeMarco Murray missed six games last season with a similar injury.
Dunbar, however, said his sprained foot is not as serious as Murray's. He said he will be out of the walking boot in three days and believes there is a good chance he plays against the Giants.
"I'm actually ready to get out of boot now," Dunbar said. "They want me to keep it on a little while longer. But I'm already walking on it. It feels a lot better."
Dunbar suffered the injury in last week's preseason game against the Cardinals, ending his preseason and cutting short what has been the most surprising performance of training camp.
"I'm disappointed," Dunbar said. "This was a setback. I have been working hard to showcase my skills. I'm just going to keep working."Clarence Hill
