Receiver Miles Austin left the game in the third quarter because of a hamstring injury. Coach Jason Garrett said the Cowboys considered using Austin but kept him out because they were ahead.
“Yeah, the discussion we had was that he was going to continue to stay warmed up,” Garrett said. “I said, ‘That’s a good thing. He needs to be ready. But we’ll keep looking at the scoreboard and making sure we can handle the situation without him.’ ”
Austin has been slowed by hamstring injuries the past two seasons. But he was healthy in training camp this year and had been healthy until now. He came in tied for the team lead in receptions. He had two catches for 22 yards against the Rams.
Austin left after the game without speaking to reporters.
