Cowboys practice report: Danny McCray returns; DeMarcus Ware, Miles Austin still out

Safety Danny McCray, who has been dealing with hip and toe injuries, returned to practice for the first time this week.

Receiver Miles Austin (hamstring),cornerback Morris Claiborne (hamstring), defensive end DeMarcus Ware (thigh), right guard Brian Waters (elbow) and safety J.J. Wilcox (knee) did not participate, making it unlikely they'll play Sunday against the Vikings.

As far as Austin's status, coach Jason Garrett said: "It's day to day with Miles as it is with everybody and we'll see how it feels when he comes in and we come up with a plan for that day and we evaluate the work he's done over the course of the week and see if he's ready to go.

"He's a veteran player. He can play without getting a whole lot of reps but he has certainly been dialed back this week. We'll see how he does today."

Linebacker DeVonte Holloman (neck) was also held out.
