The Cowboys planned to ran it more last week than the franchise-low nine times. They plan to run it more this week.
It's a good week to do just that.
The Cowboys can shorten the game, keeping Drew Brees off the field, if they can run it effectively, and stopping the run is the Saints' defensive weakness. New Orleans ranks 25th against the run and is allowing 4.9 yards per rush. Jets running back Chris Ivory ran for 139 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries against the Saints last week.
"You know we really had planned to run the ball last week, ...and as you’ve heard many, many times," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on his weekly radio show on KRLD-FM. "It certainly would help us keep New Orleans off the field if we could really mount an effective running game and gash them quite a bit, I know that that is a great way to get play-action to have a more effective play-action attack. So a lot of good things could happen, if we could get that running game going, and I assure you it’s in the game plan."
