Cowboys' deal with Will Herring is off, leaving him a free agent

Will Herring will not become a Cowboy after all, according to a source.

The former Saints linebacker agreed to a one-year free-agent deal with the Cowboys on Thursday, but the contract was never signed. The sides mutually agreed to walk away Friday, though it was not because of a failed physical.

Herring, who turns 31 in August, remains a free agent.

Herring was drafted by the Seahawks in 2007 and spent four seasons with the Seahawks before leaving for New Orleans in 2011. He was the Saints' special teams' captain last season.
