Roy Williams' young guest

Don't know what it was all about, but as the Cowboys began their later drills, Roy Williams went over to the north end zone stands and brought out a young fan. The young boy accompanied Williams onto the field, and he's standing back there watching the Cowboys work out right now.

"It’s a thing I started in Detroit – water boy for Roy. It can be a girl, though. It doesn’t matter," Williams said after practice. "It’s just a chance to give a kid an opportunity to get close to the players. He’ll probably remember that for the rest of his life. It’s something I started. I want other guys (players) to see that we have open practices, so they can do the same thing. It’s cool, man. I’d do just anything for this kids, doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl."

It was a pretty cool little deal. Williams hung out with him back there when he wasn't in a particular drill. By the way, Williams wore #11 in the morning practice and was back in #4 this afternoon.

The young fan, by the way, was 8-year-old David Garcia of San Antonio. Apparently, this is something Williams started up in Detroit, bringing a lucky young fan onto the field. Roy was hospitable, talking to and signing plenty of autographs for fans.

More fun with Roy

Mr. Jeff Caplan already put up some witty moments with Roy Williams, and moments later (didn't know Jeff had already talked to him) I got into another scrum with Williams. Here are some exerpts (by the way, this guy should talk all the time. Good stuff):

When asked what he wanted to do this year: "Catch more than 19 balls and two touchdowns."

On wearing No. 4 today (he'll be back in No. 11 tomorrow): "I rock the 4, I'll rock the 11."

On his bicycle shorts: "These aren't bicycle shorts, are they?" And after being told they were. "Well, then Lance would be proud of me."

On the adoration he was getting from the fans, who were chanting "Roy! Roy!" during his interviews: "I didn't get that in Detroit."

Coverage Roy Williams can handle

He may not be the best in coverage on the field, but working the coverage on the Red Carpet is no problem for Cowboys safety Roy Williams.

Williams masterfully guided a group of red carpet novices (and Cowboys teammates) through the photo ops for Monday night's charity birthday party for Terrell Owens. Williams, along with cornerback Anthony Henry, wide receiver Isaiah Stanback, among others, posed for photos with Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child, and actresses Jill Marie Jones and Tasha Smith before heading inside to celebrate T.O.'s birthday.
