Mike Smith's name came up during the early free-agency days, as his job status was uncertain after the Tampa Bay Lightning signed Olaf Kolzig to a deal. But the Bolts reassured Smith in the best way possible on Monday: They gave him a two-year extension worth $4.4 million and said, 'Yep, you're our No. 1 guy.'
OK, paraphrasing there, but you get the gist of it. Smitty will finish up his current deal this season, one that will pay him just under $1 million. Anyway, good for the lad. I still miss him here, but I think if he gets any defense in front of him this season, we'll see the Mike Smith that did so well here.
