There's nothing like some crisp mountain air to make you ready for the hockey season. The Stars are spending a few days in Colorado Springs, much like they did last year. It's kind of a curtailed version of when they used to go to Vale or Breckenridge for a week, back when training camp was longer than the two weeks it is now.
Anyway, I talked with coach Dave Tippett about Sunday night's game. He was very happy with the Joel Lundqvist trio (with B.J. Crombeen and Chris Conner). I know the Stars would like Lundqvist to work out at the center spot, and his preseason has been pretty solid. Crombeen continues to be the story out of this camp. Tippett loves what he's doing, loves his work ethic. This is a kid who was likely here anyway because, if sent down, he would've had to go through waivers. But there's been no coasting-through-camp attitude from him.
This was an off day for the boys (all that team-building fun), but they'll have a 2-hour practice tomorrow morning. I'm curious to see what happens Wednesday night against the Avalanche. It's going to be the last chance for some of these guys -- well, not that there are many roster spots over which to fight, but you want coaches to keep you in mind as the season progresses.
We'll be back with you tomorrow, folks.
