The Avalanche broke through on their third power play, as Ryan Smyth put them up 1-0 at the 19:48 mark. The Stars were looking for a shorthanded goal on the power play, but when they lost control of the puck they didn't have numbers going the other way. A little passing work between Paul Stastny, Joe Sakic and Smyth, and it was 1-0 Avs.
Anyway, other tidbits:
The Stars started the period with a power play, getting six shots on Peter Budaj. On the other end, Matt Climie still looked pretty good. Don't know how much you can fault him for the power-play goal (I think it was four Avs players to two Stars), but he made strong stops on Chris Stewart and John-Michael Liles, and also stalled a Wojtek Wolski shorthanded attempt.
