Just got done talking with Philippe Boucher, who will be heading to Pittsburgh later tonight. He said he knew what was going to happen as soon as he was made a healthy scratch for Saturday night's game at Phoenix (I blogged last night that it was a message... had no idea how much of one it woudl be). The guy's heard his name in rumors for a while now, so he wasn't caught off guard when it finally did happen.
"I've been around here for a while, and you hope you can retire here, but things like that aren’t always realistic," Boucher said. "When the team’s not doing well, you have to do certain things. My family’s handling it pretty well. Hockey-wise, it's a great opportunity for me. That’s how I have to see it. I can’t look back for too long. But when I do, I will be very grateful for the time I’ve had here."
Boucher's hoping to have a strong rest of the season with Pittsburgh, and maybe they'll want him to stick around for a few seasons. He's not ready to hang them up yet.
He'll be missed by us scribes. He's such a class guy in the locker room, and with all the emotional and physical pain he's gone through the last two seasons, you can't help but hope he finds his game again. Good luck to him.

Hope it works out for he and his family. His family are the ones who will have the most adjustment to make. Always hate to see players you become familiar with traded, but that is the same in all sports.

The physical problems he endured to re-enter world class hockey defy belief. The metroplex is the loser with him leaving....a "class act"
