Jere Lehtinen suffered a cut on his knee when he was blocking a shot Thursday in Calgary and will not play tonight. He skated on the knee and thinks it will be OK, and he will definitely travel to Vancouver for the Olympics and probably should play there, but he needs a couple of more days of rest. It looks like a scary injury, so it will be interesting to see if he misses a pool game with Team Finland.
Brandon Segal (pronounced SEE-gul), who was picked up on waivers from the Kings on Wednesday, will be in the lineup. The Stars have heard good things about him, and Dave Taylor has scouted him a lot this year, so I'm interested to see how he plays. He's a big body who skates well and is a right-handed shot. He should be able to play off a guy like Mike Modano or Toby Petersen, because he scored 26 goals for Norfolk (AHL) last season.
Oh, and he is the spitting image of Dane Cook.
Marty Turco in goal. Kari Lehtonen skated, but will be a healthy scratch. He's very excited to be with the Stars and get a clean start. We'll have more on that later, but he really does seem genuinely ecstatic about this opportunity.
Phoenix lost a 2-1 game in Denver last night and did not skate.
We'll see if they play Ilya Bryzgalov on back-to-back nights. He's been great lately.
