Here is the press release:
By the way, in response to one of your questions concerning the fact the Texas Stars are operating on a one-year grace period with the AHL and still need to acquire an official franchise, I asked AHL President Dave Andrews in an e-mail about it and he said the process was ongoing and that he anticipated the process will be concluded in the near future.
Neither he nor the Texas Stars people would say where that franchise would come from or whether it would be an expansion franchise or not.
The Texas Stars have been such a success in their first year, I don't think there's any way that the AHL would allow this to become a problem. In talking to Dallas Stars personnel, this is a Texas Stars issue because the Texas Stars are owned by a trust of Tom Hicks' six children and are not part of Hicks Sports Group. As such, they may not be a part of the sale of the Dallas Stars and they operate separately from the Dallas Stars.
Anyway, the Texas Stars are playing very well, they swept Rockford in the first round and now they advance to play the West Division's top seed, Chicago, which won a 2-1 Game 7 against Milwaukee Monday night. Chicago is the West Division champion, so it gets home ice in a 2-3-2 series format. The games in Cedar Park are scheduled for May 4, 5 and 7.
The Texas Stars went 4-3-1 against Chicago during the regular season.
