There's really not much to say about that one, except ``Isn't it ironic, don't you think? A little too ironic, yeah, I really do think.''
It's not often you can quote such a great Canadian as Alanis Morissette, but I think it applies here.
The Stars have stolen a few points this season thanks to an incredible job by Kari Lehtonen (The Devils, Islanders and Blues games come to mind). So it was on Saturday that Dallas was the better team and still lost to Nashville, 1-0. Pekka Rinne clearly stole this game for the Preds, and that's just kind of how these things go.
``I thought that was one of the best games we've played this year, so you have to appreciate the hard work the guys had,'' Stars coach Marc Crawford said. ``Apart from a couple of minutes in the first period, we played as good a game as we could have asked them to play. We had six or seven `Grade A' chances and just couldn't cash in. I believe if we play like that and capitalize on our chances, we'll be pretty pleased.''
The Stars were so much better than they have been in so many other games _ and they have strung together two pretty solid performances. That's a huge thing for this team. Plus, they're still 5-2-0 and they look like a team that should be a lot more consistent going forward.
``You see with the shot totals that we're learning,'' said defenseman Matt Niskanen. ``We've tightened up areas in every game and the last two games we've really pressed and been aggressive the way we need to. We didn't get the result we wanted tonight, but it's definitely a step in the right direction.''
The Stars said they feel good that they addressed earlier problems and then got better.
``We were frustrated, and we knew we had to be better when you give up that many shots,'' defenseman Nicklas Grossman said. ``We kept looking at video and talked to each other and tried to get on the same page, and that's what you have to do. Now, as the games have gone on, both in practice and in games, we've gotten stronger. We've still got a lot of work to do, so we just have to humble with that and keep working.''
Another strong game from the Ott-Wandell-Benn line, and another strong game from Lehtonen.
It is a total flip from what the team saw earlier in the year, but it is infinitely more encouraging than winning simply because of the goalie.
