The Stars didn't have practice today and I flew back late from Minnesota so sorry for the delay on this update. I talked to coach Marc Crawford this afternoon and he said Kari Lehtonen will be in goal against Edmonton on Tuesday.
He also said none of the Stars' injured will be available.
Karlis Skrastins (concussion, nose) is closest. He is symptom free and going through workouts, and could be ready by Saturday's game at home against Atlanta. Toby Petersen (leg contusion) is next. He is working out hard and is getting better, but would probably still be a week away.
Matt Niskanen (hand) is the farthest. Niskanen suffered a very deep cut in the palm of his left hand when he and Skrastins collided in Chicago, and that creates a couple of problems. Because Niskanen is right-handed, he grips the stick with his left hand for poke checking and for a lot of the very tough work along the boards that defensemen have to do. Because the cut is deep, Niskanen threatens to open up the stitches if he gets too aggressive with it.
Crawford said he doesn't know how long it will take to heal, but it is definitely the most bothersome of the injury issues.
