Just got off the phone with Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk, and he said that while Brad Richards is feeling better, he is not expected to join the Stars on this road trip.
Replays showed Richards was hit in the jaw by Sami Pahlsson on the last shift of the game Sunday against Columbus, but the Stars do not classify him as having ``concussion-like symptoms,'' they are simply saying he is not feeling 100 percent.
``He has worked out, and he is feeling better, but not enough so that we want to push him,'' Nieuwendyk said. ``We are monitoring him, and we think he's making progress.''
When asked about negotiations with Richards on a contract extension, Nieuwendyk said the team is going to keep things quiet.
``I have talked a lot with Brad, and both of us would like to do this quietly and behind the scenes,'' Nieuwendyk said. ``I will say that it is our intent to sign Brad to a contract extension, and leave it at that.''
You can read into that they aren't going to consider trading Richards no matter how bad this slump is, but Nieuwendyk said he was leaving the statement stand on its own.
Nieuwendyk said that Adam Burish (orbital bone) was on the ice for the first time today, and that Jamie Benn (shoulder) and Krys Barch (orbital bone) are also skating back in Frisco.
