Lost in the Eddie Guardado signing Friday was the fact the Rangers signed Jamey Wright to a minor-league contract. Wright's numbers last season (4-5, 3.62 ERA) weren't great but he really pitched well in relief at the end of the season. If he makes the roster, Wright would fit in nicely in long relief or as an emergency starter. The 33-year-old right-hander had a 2.05 ERA in more than 20 innings of relief work and his control was better once he quit trying to overpower hitters. In 77 innings, Wright walked 41 batters. But he walked just six in his final 16 2/3 innings and four of those came in one outing. Those are the kind of numbers you want in a long man.
