Botts designated for assignment

The Jason Botts experiment with Texas could be over. The Rangers designated the first baseman for assignment Tuesday, meaning they have 10 days to trade him or release him.

If no team claims Botts, he can go to Triple A. Texas called up Chris Shelton from Triple A to replace Botts.

Brandon Boggs was also called up to take the roster spot of Hank Blalock, who was put on the 15-day disabled list. Boggs hit .309 in 18 games of Oklahoma with no homers and six RBI.

Botts made the Rangers opening day roster but struggled this season, hitting just .158 with two homers and five RBI.
