The streak is over

The Rangers have lost 5-3. Tampa Bay took two of three from Texas, ending a streak of nine-consecutive series without a loss. The last team to take a series from the Rangers had been Detroit, which did it April 22-24. The Rangers had just six hits and struck out 11 times. Texas pitchers issued nine walks.

The three run, two hit inning stings

Five walks in the fifth inning led to four Tampa Bay runs and a 5-2 Rangers deficit. Kason Gabbard threw 85 pitches and only 39 of them were strikes.

Command dooms Gabbard

Kason Gabbard was sailing along until the bottom of the fifth, when his location went awry. Three walks in the inning have given the Rays a 3-2 lead and led to Frank Francisco coming into the game. Gabbard followed an intentional base on balls to load the based with the unintentional one on four pitches.

Kason Gabbard has now thrown just 62 pitches through the first four innings and is pitching with a 2-1 lead thanks to Milton Bradley's two-run single. The second run came courtesy of a nifty slide from Michael Young.

Young extends streak

Michael Young hit a ground-rule double to left center for the Rangers first hit in the fourth inning. The double extended Young's hitting streak to 14 games.

Make that 0 for 9

Not even having Dick Vitale sitting right next to the Rangers dugout can get the offense going. Matt Garza has retired the first nine batters, with three strikeouts. The Rangers didn't get a hit until the fourth inning two nights ago.

Rangers 0 for 6

The first six Rangers have been retired, with just one ball getting out of the infield. Matt Garza, who beat the Rangers the only other time he's faced them, has thrown just 22 pitches in two innings.

Gabbard struggling early

Kason Gabbard needed 29 pitches to get out of the first inning and the Rangers are down 1-0. B.J.Upton's single scored Akinori Iwamura. The Rangers went down in order in the top of the first.
