Davis' first hit looks like line drive in box score

In his first major league at bat Chris Davis came out swinging. The Longview native, in his first game with the Rangers after being called up from Oklahoma City, pinch-hit in the ninth inning against the Astros' Oscar Villarreaal. Davis, 22, said he was looking for a fastball but got a change up instead. Davis jumped on the first pitch and sent a slow roller to third which was unplayable.
"I was looking for a fastball ... when it was all said and done it probably would have been better to see some more pitches, but I'll take it," Davis said. "It's good to get it."
The Rangers lost 7-2.
"It would have been nice to get a win but we'll go out and get 'em tomorrow," Davis said.
Manager Ron Washington said before the game that when Hank Blalock returns Davis will be sent back to Oklahoma City, regardless of his performance.
"I can only do what I can do," Davis said. "I can't control anything else. All I can do is go out there and do my best every day."
