The Rangers are expected to conduct a series of interviews later this week -- so, in a few days -- to fill out their coaching staff. Manager Ron Washington is expected to arrive in Arlington on Wednesday and will be a part of the process.
The candidates remain the same as two weeks ago: Jackie Moore for bench coach, Perry Hill as fielding instructor, Rick Peterson as pitching coach and possibly Andy Hawkins as the bullpen coach.
Dave Wallace is another possibility for pitching coach, but his name produced lukewarm responses from some last week in Surprise, Ariz. Here's a name that could pop up: Marcel Lachemann. He is with the Rockies as a front-office special assistant and was in Colorado when Rangers general manager Jon Daniels and assistant GM Thad Levine were cutting their teeth in baseball.
Brad Fischer, who worked with Washington in Oakland, is another possibility to take over as bullpen coach. Another Oakland connection, Ken Macha, could get consideration as bullpen coach, but Moore appears to be the front-runner. He told the Houston Chronicle last week that he's happy in Houston but would listen to the Rangers if/when they come calling.
