The Elias Sports Bureau's statistical rankings from the past two seasons are making the rounds, and Hank Blalock and Milton Bradley, two of the five Rangers who filed for free agency, are Type B players. That means the Rangers would receive a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds of the First-Year Player Draft if Blalock and Bradley are offered arbitration but sign with another team.
That's more likely to happen with Bradley, who said late in the season that he is seeking a multiyear contract. But he also has said that he would like to return to the team with which he became an All-Star for the first time in his career.
General manager Jon Daniels has said several times this month that the Rangers will pick up the $6.2 million option on Blalock rather than buy him out for $250,000.
Jamey Wright just missed receiving a Type B designation. Jason Jennings and Ramon Vazquez also fell below the Type B cutoff.
