Still on hold

General manager Jon Daniels still hasn't received permission from the Milwaukee Brewers to interview pitching coach Mike Maddux for the Rangers' vacancy, but Daniels isn't giving up on speaking to Greg's brother yet.

The Brewers have a pretty big hole -- manager -- of their own, and they might want Maddux to be retained on the new skipper's staff. Also, former special assistant Jack Zduriencik has been hired as the Seattle Mariners' new GM, and his first task is to find a field management. Maddux's services could be in high demand with the Mariners, too.

The Rangers have interviewed Rick Peterson, Dave Wallace and Andy Hawkins, who finished the season as the pitching coach. He'll likely end up as the bullpen coach.
