Three days' worth of meetings with front-office personnel (Nolan Ryan, Jon Daniels, Thad Levine, John Hart, et al) and scouts (Ron Hopkins and crew) have begun in Surprise, Ariz. Monday's first round of morning meetings was followed by a big pow wow at Nolan Ryan Field at the Surprise Recrecation Complex, where Robbie Ross pitched two-plus innings as the Rangers' Instructional League club rallied to beat the Padres 8-7.
Ross wasn't bad, but he couldn't get out of the third inning. He allowed three two-out runs and left in a 3-2 deficit. Offensively, Engel Beltre had a pair of triples. That guy -- kid is more approrpriate -- can fly.
Manager Ron Washington is expect to arrive Tuesday as the Fall League opens. Hitting instructor Rudy Jaramillo is here and was in uniform working with minor-league hitting coordinator Mike Boulanger on another back field, and first-base coach Gary Pettis is also expected to be on site.
