Maddux to Rangers

A baseball source has confirmed a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report that Mike Maddux is heading to the Rangers to become their pitching coach. Brewers GM Doug Melvin confirmed the news, saying that Maddux had been overwhelmed financially with the Rangers' offer.

It also helps that Maddux's first coaching gig came in 2000 with the Round Rock Express, owned by Nolan Ryan and managed by Jackie Moore. Ryan, of course, is the Rangers' president, and Moore was hired last month to be the bench coach.

Rangers GM Jon Daniels said as recently as Saturday night that there was nothing new to report on the Maddux front. Apparently, his beloved Giants had distanced themselves from the Cowboys early enough Sunday that he could complete a deal.

Daniels is scheduled to fly to the GM meetings late this morning.
