General manager Jon Daniels confirmed that he and team president Nolan Ryan met Monday with free-agent right-hander Ben Sheets, one of the big-name, high-dollar pitchers on the market.
Daniels said it was the Rangers' first meeting with the former Brewers pitcher, who lives in Dallas, and agent Casey Close. Daniels used the word "preliminary" a lot and also said to not "read too much into it" at least three times.
Pitching remains the Rangers' priority this off-season, but so does promoting their own prospects to the big-league level. Also, trades are more of a priority than signing a free agent.
