General manager Jon Daniels said the groundwork might have been laid for possible deals later in the off-season, but the Rangers are leaving Las Vegas having made only one deal that had been agreed to before the winter meetings opened.
No offers have been made to free agents, though one could be extended to Jason Jennings soon. His agent is Casey Close, who also represents Ben Sheets. Daniels said he expects to talk to Close again, about both players. Further talks with Randy Johnson's agents, Alan Nero and Barry Meister, are also anticipated.
The Rangers, though, look an awful lot like they looked Monday. No new starting pitchers, no bullpen help, no additions at third base. And Daniels said the Rangers would be content if the only way they could improve the club this off-season is with their own players in the organization.
