Recently re-signed reliever Eddie Guardado said earlier this week that he was going to play for Team Mexico next month in the World Baseball Classic. However, the Rangers announced that Guardado has changed his mind and will stay with them throughout spring training.
The assumption is that Guardado will be on the Opening Day roster, and that would escalate the terms of his contract to $1 million. There are no guarantees with his minor-league deal, though, and an injury while pitching for Mexico could hamper his chances of being on the roster.
