Saturday spring update, lots of pitching news

<>Just as the media was getting the boot from the clubhouse, in walked right-hander Kris Benson. So, the deal is apparently done, and he has signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training. More from him later.

<>The pitching rotation for the spring is set, beginning with the spring opener Wednesday: Matt Harrison, Kevin Millwood, Scott Feldman, Brandon McCarthy and Vicente Padilla. Those five will get all the starts, barring injuries or rainouts. Derek Holland and Neftali Feliz, the Rangers' top pitching prospects, are on a starting pitcher's schedule, but pitching coach Mike Maddux could not say definitively if those two would start any A games.

<>The starting pitchers will throw two innings their first two starts, then three, four, five, six and four. All pitchers will throw an inning during the two intrasquad games Monday and Tuesday. Millwood and Harrison will start Monday, and Padilla and Feldman will start Tuesday.

<>Shortstop Elvis Andrus said he will take batting practice today after resting a sore left wrist Thursday and Friday.

<>Jason Jennings and Kason Gabbard will throw batting practice today for the first time this spring.
