Lost in the aftermath of Ian Kinsler's record-setting performance last night was the work of right-hander Kris Benson. The game could have gotten ugly for Benson early, as he neared 60 pitches after two innings and the Rangers had Josh Rupe warming in the second inning. But Benson hung around for six innings, threw 111 pitches and gave the beat-up bullpen a much-needed break. He also recorded his first big-league win since Sept. 21, 2006. Here's a little bit of what Benson had to say.
"It's a huge monkey off my back, trust me. I had a couple of wins in spring training but it doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things until you get this one out here. I'll be able to relax a lot more now that I have that one taken care of."
"I just had to find that groove and fortunately I found it. I started attacking the zone. I kept trying to pound the strike zone."
