Nolan Ryan thinks the Rangers made the right decision is calling up left-hander Derek Holland from Oklahoma City. Here's Ryan's logic for promoting Holland.
"The original gameplan was to send him down there and have him pitch against older players and get some innings in and pitch against hitters that are more selective and not free swingers. He pitched well enough to make the club out of spring training, but we felt like it was important to his development to give him those innings in Triple A. But with the way the middle relief has done, we felt like it would be more meaningful to the organization to bring him up and put him in that role and Ron use him where he can."
Ryan said it's important to get Holland used to the big league environment, and that by pitching in relief early he'll be better prepared if the Rangers need him to start.
Hopefully that's the end of the news on what turned out to be a busy off day.
