Taylor Teagarden scratched from Saturday lineup

Taylor Teagarden was supposed to catch Derek Holland tonight, but has been scratched because of the stomach flu. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will start in Teagarden's place.

Matt Harrison headed to the disabled list

The Texas left-hander has some inflammation in his left biceps, and manager Ron Washington said the team will put him on the disabled list Sunday. An MRI came back clean and Harrison will see a neurologist Monday to rule out nerve problems. Tommy Hunter will make the Sunday start, and Washington said it was a spot start. The Rangers can skip that starting spot the next time around because of an off day. The Rangers will not make a corresponding roster move until Sunday.

Does everyone feel better now?

The Rangers never seemed to worry during their slide, and now that they've won three of four everything seems right with the world. A big key though comes Saturday night with Derek Holland's start. Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla and Scott Feldman have pitched well recently, and Holland had his best outing of the season in San Francisco. Another solid start against an awful San Diego offense could be the kind of confidence boost Holland needs to get on a roll.

More on the German Duran move

I exchanged texts with German Duran, who wants to stay with the organization. The feeling is mutual. Assistant general manager Thad Levine said he hopes Duran clears waivers. The way release waivers work is that other organizations have two business days to claim Duran. If he isn't claimed by Wednesday, he can re-sign with Texas. While it would seem like an easy move to claim Duran, that really isn't the case. He's on the minor league DL after having an appendectomy. Any team that claims him would be forced to put him on the major league disabled list.

Rangers activate Willie Eyre, option Brandon Boggs, release German Duran

The Ranger activated reliever Willie Eyre from the disabled list to give the team another arm in the bullpen. To make room for Eyre, the Rangers optioned outfielder Brandon Boggs to Oklahoma City. The Rangers will go with an eight-man bullpen and a three-man bench for the weekend. To make a spot for Eyre on the 40-man roster, the Rangers put former Paschal and TCU player German Duran on release waivers.

Rangers hang on for 9-8 victory

Arizona scored two runs in the 12th and brought the winning run to the plate, but former L.D. Bell and UT-Arlington product Ryan Roberts hit into a fielder's choice to end the game. Chris Davis was the star for the Rangers, collecting four hits and swatting the go-ahead two-run homer in the 12th. David Murphy followed with a solo homer that turned out to be a key run.

Omar Vizquel said he feels about 100 pounds lighter after collecting his 2,678th hit and moving past Luis Aparicio for the all-time hits lead by a native of Venezuela.

Rangers lead going to the bottom of the 12th

Chris Davis hit a two-run homer on the next pitch after he barely stayed alive  with two outs in the 12th, and David Murphy followed with a solo homer to give the Rangers a 9-6 lead heading to the bottom of the 12th. Jason Jennings will be summoned to preserve the lead.

Davis has tied his career-high for hits in a game with four in five at-bats. He has also drawn a walk to set a career mark for times reaching base in a game.
