The rotation as of now

Derek Holland will open the series against Seattle Thursday night. Vicente Padilla is now scheduled to pitch Friday, with Tommy Hunter going Saturday and Kevin Millwood pushed back to Sunday. That gives Millwood a couple of extra days to rest his tight left glute.

Doug Mathis has been sent down

The move makes room for Joaquin Arias. Ian Kinsler said his left hamstring feels better. He thinks he could pinch hit tonight and hopes to start Thursday.

Ian Kinsler is sitting tonight with his strained left hamstring, with Omar Vizquel playing second base and leading off. The Rangers have not made a roster move, but Joaquin Arias is on the card as a reserve. Ian Kinsler is too, so whatever roster move is being made, will not involve him.

Brandon McCarthy is throwing batting practice

The right-hander is back up on the mound in his bid to return from a stress fracture in his right shoulder blade. He's facing Taylor Teagarden. Frank Francisco has already thrown BP and worked on fielding.

Eddie Guardado explains the seventh inning

Eddie Guardado got into a verbal discussion with Tigers manager Jim Leyland in the seventh inning Tuesday. The Tigers were upset with a pitch Jason Grilli threw to Clete Thomas. After the Tigers threw behind Ian Kinsler in the sixth, Guardado's first pitch to Adam Everett in the seventh inning was inside. Leyland and Guardado started talking back to each other, with Guardado motioning for Leyland to zip his lips. Guardado was just protecting his team. "If they don't know the game they shouldn't be there," Guardado said. "I'm not going to try and hurt anybody. I'm just trying to play the game the right way."

As for hurting someone, Guardado didn't think that was a real possibility anyway. "I throw 85 mph," he said. "They can catch that. That's part of baseball. Actually it was kind of fun."

Elvis Andrus joins exclusive company

His fourth inning steal of second base in the fourth inning gave him 20 on the season. He's just the 10th player in major league history to have a 20-steal season at the age of 20 or younger. Andruw Jones was the last player to do it, accomplishing the feat in 1997. Other players on the list include Roberto Alomar, Ty Cobb and Rickey Henderson.

Ian Kinsler has a mild left hamstring strain

He felt it running to first in the sixth inning. He will be re-evaluated Wednesday. He was replaced by Omar Vizquel in the seventh inning. Kinsler went 1 for 3 with a triple and three RBI before the injury.

The Rangers second baseman grimaced running down the first-base line as he was trying to beat out a grounder of the sixth inning and appeared to be limping as he got to first basel. He has been replaced at second by Omar Vizquel.

The scoreless inning strea ends for Doug Mathis

He had pitched 18 consecutive innings without allowing a run before giving up three in the second inning Tuesday. The Rangers trail 3-0.
