Right-hander Thomas Diamond, the Rangers first-round pick in the 2004 draft, has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. The Rangers also recalled outfielder Brandon Boggs and put him on the 60-day disabled list with a dislocated left shoulder to make room on the 40-man. The Rangers have 32 players on their active roster, as they added Brandon McCarthy, Esteban German, Eddie Guardado, Kevin Richardson, Guillermo Moscoso, Warner Madrigal and Craig Gentry to the team today,
Diamond missed the entire 2007 season because of Tommy John surgery and an ankle injury limited him to 12 games last year. He's pitched 38 games this season for Frisco and Oklahoma City, but was slowed by injuries again.
The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release, or outright Diamond to the minor leagues.
