Rangers officials say they are closing in on a decison for Rudy Jaramillo's replacement for hitting coach, but it's unlikely that an announcement will be made today. As general manager Jon Daniels put it, he and the decision-makers are just doing their final bit of homework.
An announcement today made sense on a few fronts, one of which was Daniels saying there was a "decent" chance that it would happen only a day after interviewing the four finalists. Also, today is a World Series off day, and MLB prefers that any non-Series news be announced on off days.
With the possibility that two more games will have to be played, the Rangers might not have an announcement until Friday. So, why not wait until Monday and make a splash on the first day of the general manager's meetings in Chicago? Then again, if the Yankees take care of the Phillies in Game 6 tomorrow, the Rangers could let the rest of the baseball world know Thursday if Thad Bosley, Clint Hurdle, Rusty Greer or Gerald Perry is their new hitting instructor.
