Source: Trade for Mike Lowell won't happen

Mike Lowell has a torn radial collateral ligament in his right thumb, an injury severe enough to kill a proposed trade between the Rangers and Boston Red Sox. Lowell was in town today for a physical with Rangers doctors, and Boston had agreed to eat $9 million of the $12 million on Lowell's 2010 contract.

So, the Rangers will turn their attention to another big bat to add to the lineup. Among those who might be of interest are Jermaine Dye, Vladimir Guerrero and Jim Thome.
