Since I play requests, here's a little Marcus Lemon. Marcus will also be the subject of the spotlight in Friday's Star-Telegram. Worth the price of the paper alone. C'mon, if you don't buy the paper, I don't have a job. If I don't have a job, there's no videos. It's the circle of life.
Calling the decision the "cleanest" available option, general manager Jon Daniels said that the Rangers have foid the one-year, $750,000 of Khalil Greene. The move comes only a few days after Greene's agent, Mike Milchin, said that the utility infielder would not report to camp on time after suffering a relapse with social anxiety.
Daniels said the Rangers have not closed the relationship with Greene, who could be considered for a roster spot when he is deemed fit to return to baseball. There is no timetable for a return. Nor is there an immediate timetable for the Rangers to add a utility man. The internal candidates will get a look first, said Daniels, and the Rangers' scouts will gather information on possible fits. It might not be until the middle of March, when players start getting released from other clubs, until something materializes.
The Rangers would also consider trades for players expected to make Opening Day rosters. They had interest over the winter in Augie Ojeda, but haven't contacted Arizona since the Greene situation unfolded. Mike Lowell, who was headed to the Rangers until failing a physical during the off-season, could be a consideration. The Rangers, though, haven't spoken to Boston about Lowell, who still needs to show that he is healthy and who can't play up the middle. The ability to play shortstop effectively is the No. 1 trait the Rangers hope to find in a utility man.
Josh Hamilton will do conditioning work only and get treatment on his left shoulder contusion. The Rangers are listing him as day-to-day and Hamilton said he's still sore. Also on the medical front, the team is still waiting on a second opinion on Omar Poveda's right elbow before going forwardw with Tommy John surgery. The club could also resolve the Khalil Greene roster situation today. For quicker updates, follow us on twitter at @aandro and @JeffWilson_FWST.
From the request and dedication line, this video goes out to Kinslerhomer, who requested this clip via the blog and Twitter (@aandro). Kirkman continues to draw good reviews from the Rangers, so hear you go. Thanks for the help in promoting the videos.
