Michael Kirkman leaves game after getting hit in face

Left-hander Michael Kirkman took a one-hopper off the left side of his face against the first Dodgers hitter of the seventh inning, and has left the game. Kirkman went down as the ball bounded into right field for a double, but he did not stay down long. He was up before the play ended, and looked as though he wanted to stay in the game. But he went to the clubhouse under his own power with trainer Jamie Reed, and was replaced by Clay Rapada.

The Rangers lead 4-1 at one point, but have fallen into a 4-4 tie. Matt Kemp tied the game in the sixth with a two-run homer off Pedro Strop. Derek Holland pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while facing the minimum. His work was so efficient that he had to throw an additional 15 pitches in the bullpen to get in all his work.
