Scott Feldman will be your Opening Day starter. He will be followed in the rotation by Rich Harden, C.J. Wilson, Colby Lewis and Matt Harrison. Brandon McCarthy and Derek Holland have been optioned to Oklahoma City, where they will be starters.
"He deserves it," manager Ron Washington said of the decision to give Feldman the Opening Day nod."He won 17 games for us last year and he's certainly been throwing very well. He deserves it."
Washington said Harden's slow spring had no impact on the decision to start Feldman first. Feldman will pitch Sunday and then throw live batting practice later in the week to have him ready for April 5.
Washington was impressed with Wilson.
"You have to give C.J. all the credit in the world," he said. "He went out there and took the bull by the horns. He showed he's capable of going through a lineup and putting the ball in play and doing everything he can to be a quality starter. He wants to be accountable. He wants to be a leader. He did everything he has to do to make this happen."
McCarthy did not have to clear any special waivers to be sent down. General manager Jon Daniels said he had options remaining.
Neftali Feliz has earned one of the bullpen spots along with Chris Ray. The bullpen is Feliz, Ray, Dustin Nippert, Darren O'Day, Frank Francisco and Darren Oliver. There is still one spot to be determined, with Doug Mathis, Willie Eyre and Guillermo Moscoso the front runners.
