Nelson Cruz lands on 15-day DL

The Rangers have put Nelson Cruz on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season and recalled Craig Gentry from Triple A Oklahoma City.

The Rangers put Cruz through a battery of tests on his strained left hamstring, but he wasn't able to get through them well enough to be an effective player for them anytime soon. He can hit and run forward without much pain, but any other kind of movement causes too much discomfort.

"It wasn't good enough for him to play in the outfield," manager Ron Washington said. "He's got to be able to play the outfield."

Putting Vladimir Guerrero in right field on a regular basis and using Cruz at designated hitter was not a viable option, Washington said.

Cruz will be eligible to come off the disabled list June 13 for the finale of a three-game interleague series at Milwaukee. The next day is an off day, and the Rangers will open a three-game series at Florida on June 15.
