The bullpen has now worked 37 innings in Harden's 10 starts, but manager Ron Washington liked what he saw tonight. Here is what he said.
"Richard gave us a great effort out there tonight," Washington said. "He pounded the strike zone. They earned everything they got from him and that's all we ask. He was consistent in that strike zone. He was using his changeup, his slide, his fastball, getting ahead of hitters, staying ahead. It was a good outing."
His ERA is now a season high 5.14 and he's pitched ast least six innings only three times. He did throw plenty of strikes, with 73 on 104 pitches. But he was done in by an inability to put away Willie Bloomquist in the sixth inning. On an 11-pitch AB, the .146 hitter tripled off Harden and ended his night.
