A baseball official confirmed that Rangers first-round pick Jake Skole is close to agreeing to terms with the Rangers at close to the recommended slot money. The deal could be completed by the end of the week. Kellin Deglan, the No. 22 pick, has already agreed to terms for $1 million, another source said.
This comes after the Rangers made Skole, a two-sport star, their first-round pick, No. 15 overall. A Georgia Tech commitment to play safety on the football team, Skole said that he phoned Yellow Jackets coach Paul Johnson to inform him that he won't be honoring his commitment.
“I always felt like I’d end up being a baseball player,” Skole said. “I was about to [play football] and then all this draft stuff started popping up. I figured I might be able to have a future in this.”
